——The test condition parameters with speed symbol K in the applicable scope of high-speed test method are added (see Table 4; Table 4 of Edition 2014).
This document has been redrafted and modified in relation to ISO 10231:2003 Motorcycle tyres - Test methods for verifying tyre capabilities.
This document is changed largely from ISO 10231: 2003 in structure; the comparison between this document and ISO 10231: 2003 in clause number is listed in Annex A.
Technical differences have been made in this document with respect to ISO 10231-1: 2003, and marked with perpendicular single line (|) at the margin of relevant clauses; see Annex B for the list of technical differences and their causes.
The following editorial changes have been made in this document:
——The standard name is changed into Test methods for verifying capabilities of motorcycle tyres;

Test methods for verifying capabilities of motorcycle tyres
1 Scope
This document specifies terms and definitions, test equipment and accuracy, test methods, judgment rules and test report for verifying capabilities of motorcycle tyres. It covers the methods for strength test, endurance test, high-speed test and centrifugal growth test for motorcycle tyres.
This document is applicable to new pneumatic motorcycle tyres.
The high-speed test method in this document is not applicable to pneumatic tyres for motorcycles with a maximum speed capability below 100km/h.
The centrifugal growth test method in this document is only applicable to pneumatic motorcycle tyres with speed symbol P (with maximum speed capability of 150km/h) or above.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions established in GB/T 6326 and the following apply.
3.1
test drum speed
speed of the outer surface of the steel test drum
3.2
tyre speed
peripheral speed of the tread surface
3.3
maximum load rating
maximum load the tyre is rated to carry at the maximum speed
Note: Maximum speed means the speed corresponding to the speed symbol on the tyre or the maximum tyre speed capability specified by the tyre manufacturer.
4 Test equipment and precision
4.1 High-speed endurance tester
4.1.1 The tester drum is 1,700mm±17mm in diameter.
4.1.2 The surface of the tester drum shall be of smooth steel, with radial run-out less than or equal to 0.25mm and the width exceeding the overall width of the inflatable section of test tyre.
4.1.3 The load carrying capacity of a test loading device shall be adequate for the requirements of the test, and its accuracy shall be within ±1.5% of the full scale.
4.1.4 For the tester drum, its speed capability shall be adequate for the requirements of the test and its speed accuracy shall be within ±3% of the full scale.
4.2 Strength tester
4.2.1 The tester shall be equipped with a cylindrical steel plunger of sufficient length with a hemispherical end of 8.0mm±0.2mm in diameter.
4.2.2 The loading capacity of tester loading device shall not exceed 2,000kg.
4.2.3 The displacement of plunger and the force display accuracy shall be controlled within an accuracy of ±1% of the full scale. For the plunger, the displacement speed shall be controlled with an accuracy of ±3% of the full scale.
4.3 Inflation pressure gauge
With maximum scale value of at least 400kPa and an accuracy within ±10kPa.
4.4 Centrifugal growth test device
4.4.1 Test axle
For the tyre centrifugal growth test, the test axle and the rim shall be controlled in order to ensure a radial run-out of less than ±0.5mm and a lateral run-out of less than ±0.5mm when measured respectively at the bead seat and the vertical part of the inner flange of the rim immediately above the bead seat radius.
4.4.2 Contour outline device
Such as projecting grid and camera, which permit the distinct outlining of the external contour of the tyre section at the point with the maximum deformation. The device shall reduce to a minimum distortion and ensure a constant (known) ratio between the plotted contour and the actual dimensions.
The device shall permit the reference of the tyre contour to the wheel axis.
The accuracy of the tyre centrifugal growth test device shall be ±1% of the full scale.
Note: For the test only for the purpose of testing whether the centrifugal growth size of motorcycle tyres meets the relevant limit under dynamic conditions, the limit testing method of centrifugal growth test (e.g. photoelectric control, contour plate control, etc. see 5.5.3) can also be adopted. An enveloping curve or centrifugal radius control line, i.e., the maximum allowable deformation point of the tread on the tyre bisector, can be created as the device basis for limiting the centrifugal growth size of the tyre. See Annex C for the relevant contour curve.
