1 Scope
This Standard specifies the measurement methods of net power for automotive engine.
This Standard applies to the curve of net power of Categories M and N automotive engines relative to rotational speed change.
This Standard applies to reciprocating piston engines (spark ignition type and compression ignition type) or Wankel engines (spark ignition type and compression ignition type), but excludes free piston engines.

3 Definition
The following definitions are adopted in this Standard:
3.1 "Engine type certification" refers to certification of engine type with regard to the measured net power of engine according to method specified in Appendix C (Normative) of this Standard.
3.2 "Engine type" means the a kind of automotive engines with the same main features as those specified in Appendix A(Normative) of this Standard.
3.3 "Net power" is the output power at corresponding rotation speed on bent axle terminal or its equivalent part tail end of engine equipped with auxiliaries listed in Table C1 of Appendix C of this Standard and is corrected according to standard atmospheric condition.
