1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirements, test method, inspection rules, marking, packaging, storage and transport of feed grade DL-methionine products.
This standard is applicable to feed grade DL-methionine produced with methylthiopropanal, cyanide, sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide as main raw materials.
Chemical name: 2-Amino-4-(methylthio) butyric acid
Chemical formula: CH3S-CH2-CH2-CH(NH2)-COOH
Relative molecular mass: 149.2 (as per the international relative atomic mass in 2007)

3 Requirements
3.1 Appearance and properties
It is white or light gray powder or flaky crystal, which is slightly soluble in water, very slightly soluble in ethanol, and dissolved in dilute acid and sodium hydroxide (potassium) solution.
