本部分规定了人体部分进入机械（见GB/T 15706.1-1995的3.1）的12种开口的最小功能尺寸（开口尺寸，见参考文献[2]）和22种开口配置要求，及将人体测量数据（人体尺寸）和附加空间（裕量）相结合的26个计算开口尺寸公式。其中人体尺寸见GB/T 18717.3-2002表1，附加空间的数值遵照附录A规定。开口尺寸是以预期使用者群体的第95百分数（见参考文献[2]）数值为基础，而触及距离则是以第5百分位数数值为基础，在每一种情况中，均应以预期使用者群体的最不利人体尺寸为基础；该考虑也适用于开口的配置，参见附录B。本部分适用于非移动式机械，对移动式机械可有额外的特殊要求。防护人员触及伤害的情况在GB 12265.1中论述。
