Test methods for physical and mechanical properties of small clear wood specimens — Part 2: Sampling methods and general requirements
1 Scope
This document describes the methods for sawing and cutting of sample collected and general requirements for sample in the test methods for physical and mechanical properties of small clear wood specimens.
This document is applicable to sawing, cutting of samples and testing of physical and mechanical properties in the test methods for physical and mechanical properties of small clear wood specimens.

4 Sampling method
4.1 Selection of test materials
The test materials include logs, heart planks and sawn timber. The materials shall be selected taking into account the purpose of the test, as well as to ensure that the properties obtained from the test pieces represent the sample population.
4.2 Sampling of wood material
4.2.1 Logs
4.2.1.1 After the collected log material is transported to the test site, it shall be sawed off as soon as possible. First, the coating head and the cracked part of the end of the material shall be sawed off. Then, three 300mm wood segments shall be sequenced from the lower end of each log material. In one of the wood segments, wood sticks of 300mm × 70mm × 70mm were cut off according to Figure 1, and one test piece of hardness and nail holding force was cut off from each wood stick. In the other wood segment, radial wood sticks of 300mm×35mm×170mm were cut off according to Figure 2, and one sample blank of radial tensile, radial compressive elastic modulus and radial shear resistance was cut off from each wood stick. In the last segment, 300mm×35mm×170mm stringed wood sticks are cut off according to Figure 3, and one test pieces with tangential tensile, tangential compressive elastic modulus and tangential shear resistance is cut off from each stick. The above wood stick does not contain pith.
