Textiles - Evaluation for antibacterial activity - Part 3: Shake flask method
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 20944 specifies the quantitative test and evaluation method to determine the antibacterial activities of textiles by shake flask method.
It is applicable to various textile products made of down feather, fiber, yarn, fabric, and with special shapes, especially to non-soluble antibacterial textile products.
The evaluation of the safety of antibacterial products is not covered by this part.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain provisions which, through reference in this part of GB/T 20944, constitute provisions of this part. For dated references, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections), or revisions, of any of these publications do not apply to this part. However, parties to agreements based on this part are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the normative documents indicated below. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies.
GB/T 12490 Textiles - Tests for colour fastness - Colour fastness to domestic and commercial laundering (GB/T 12490-2007, ISO 105-C06: 1994, MOD)
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this part of GB/T 20944, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 antibacterial activity
activity of textiles that can inhibit the growth and reproduction of bacteria on fabrics
3.2 control fabric
100% cotton fabric without any treatment used to verify the growth condition of test microorganism
Note: It’s proved that the standard cotton adjacent fabric for color fastness test is suitable as a control fabric after being steamed and boiled at high temperature and washed with distilled water.
4 Safety precaution
Safety instruction: Since the test bacteria used in this test can cause human infection, all necessary precautions shall be taken to avoid hazards to personnel and environment, and the test shall be carried out by trained personnel.
5 Principle
Put the sample and the control fabric into a triangular flask respectively containing a certain concentration of test bacterium solution, oscillate the flask for a certain time at a specified temperature, determine the viable bacteria concentration of the bacterium solution in the triangular flask before and after oscillation for a certain time, then calculate the antibacterial rate, which shall be used to evaluate the antibacterial effect of the sample.
