GB/T 223.78-2000 Methods for Chemical Analysis of Iron, Steel and Alloy - Curcumin Spectrophotometric Method for the Determination of Boron Content (English Version)
1 Scope
This standard specifies the determination of boron content in steel by curcumin spectrophotometric method.
This method is applicable to the determination of 0.0005 % (m/m) ~0.012 % (m/m) boron content in steel and 0.0001% (m/m) ~0.0005% (m/m) boron content in non-alloy steel.

3 Principle
The sample is dissolved in hydrochloric acid, nitric acid and will decompose to boron compounds (such as nitride) in the action of phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid at 290℃. In the acetic acid-acetate buffer solution, the boric acid and curcumin will form colored compound. The photometric measurement is carried out at 543nm wave length.
