Humidifiers
1 Scope
This document specifies the requirements for humidification capacity, humidification efficiency, noise, water shortage indication, durability, whole-unit leakage and microorganism removal of humidifiers, describes the corresponding test methods, specifies the marking, packaging, transportation and storage, and provides product classification for technical specification.
This document is applicable to the production, inspection and sale of household and similar use humidifiers.
This document is also applicable to the evaluation of the humidification function of multi-functional combination units in which the humidification function can be turned on independently.
The evaluation of the humidification function of multi-functional combination units in which the humidification function cannot be turned on independently shall be carried out with reference to this document.
Note that the following humidifiers may require additional requirements:
——Humidifiers used in means of transport (e.g., vehicles, ships, aircraft, etc.).
This document is not applicable to:
——Humidifiers specifically designed for industrial use;
——Humidifiers used in special environments with corrosive and explosive gases (such as dust, vapour and gas);
——Humidifiers with medical applications;
——Humidifiers without a water tank.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 21551.1, as well as the following, apply.
3.1
humidifier
An electrically driven appliance that increases the relative humidity of the air.
3.1.1
ultrasonic humidifier
A humidifier that atomises water by means of ultrasonic waves and disperses the atomised water into the air.
3.1.2
evaporative humidifier
A humidifier that disperses evaporated water into the air by means of a fan.
Note: Includes centrifugal humidifiers that throw water into fine particles by centrifugal force and disperse them into the air.
3.1.3
electrical heating humidifier
A humidifier that vaporises water by electrical heating to generate steam.
Note: Includes electrode humidifiers that heat water by electrodes to vaporise water.
3.1.4
hybrid humidifier
A humidifier that achieves the humidification function by simultaneously using any two or more of the above principles.
3.1.5
multi-functional combination unit
An integrated unit that has both a humidification function and other functions.
Note: For example, air purifier and humidifier combination, air conditioner and humidifier combination, fresh air and humidifier combination, etc.
3.2
humidification capacity (Q)
The ability of a humidifier to atomise (vaporise) water per unit time under specified conditions.
Note: The unit is millilitres per hour (mL/h).
3.3
rated mode(s)
The maximum humidification state specified by the manufacturer or in the instruction manual, and the operating mode that runs continuously and stably.
3.4
humidification efficiency (η)
The humidification capacity produced per unit of power consumption of the humidifier in the rated mode.
Note: The unit is millilitres per hour per watt [mL/(h·W)].
3.5
water tank capacity
The amount of water contained when the water tank is filled to the specified scale (or filled to full if no scale is provided).
3.6
water tray
A container other than the water tank used for holding water directly for humidification.
3.7
low noise mode(s)
A low-noise, continuous and stable operation mode specified by the manufacturer or in the instruction manual as "night", "sleep", etc.
