1 Scope
This document specifies the classification, designation and grade designation method, ordering information, manufacturing process, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marking and quality certificate for cold-reduced electrolytic tinplate and tin-free steel.
This document is applicable to the production, inspection and delivery of single-cold-reduced electrolytic tinplate and tin-free steel with a nominal thickness of 0.140 mm to 0.80 mm, and double-cold-reduced electrolytic tinplate and tin-free steel with a nominal thickness of 0.100 mm to 0.390 mm (hereinafter referred to as "plates and strips").

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
electrolytic tinplate
Cold-reduced low-carbon steel plate or strip with a tin coating deposited on both surfaces by a continuous electrolytic tinning process.
3.2
differential coated electrolytic tinplate
Electrolytic tinplate with different tin coating weights on the two surfaces.
3.3
single cold-reduced (SR)
The steel substrate is cold-reduced to the required thickness, followed by annealing and temper rolling.
3.4
double cold-reduced (DR)
The steel substrate is single cold-reduced and annealed, and then cold-reduced a second time with a relatively large reduction.
3.5
box annealing (BA)
A process in which cold-rolled steel strip in a tightly wound coil is annealed in a controlled atmosphere according to a specified time and temperature cycle.
3.6
continuous annealing (CA)
A process in which cold-rolled steel strip in an uncoiled state is annealed in a controlled atmosphere according to a specified time and temperature cycle.
3.7
chromium passivation
A conventional passivation process in which tinplate is cathodically treated in an acidic chromate solution to form a chromium layer on the surface of the tinplate.
3.8
chemical passivation (CP)
A passivation treatment in which the steel strip after electrolytic tinning is immersed in a chemical solution without electric current.
3.9
electrochemical passivation (CE)
A passivation treatment in which the steel strip after electrolytic tinning is immersed in a chemical solution and cathodically treated with electric current.
3.10
chromium-free passivation (CFP)
A passivation process in which tinplate is treated by electrolytic or coating methods using chromium-free passivation solutions, resulting in a tinplate surface free of chromium.
4 Classification, designation and grade designation method
4.1 Classification and designation
The classification and designation of plates and strips shall comply with Table 1.
4.2 Grades and designation method
4.2.1 For plates and strips for general purposes, the grade designation generally consists of the steel grade code for the substrate, the temper grade designation and the annealing method code.
Example: MRT-2.5CA, LT-3BA, MRDR-8BA.
4.2.2 For plates and strips used for manufacturing two-piece drawn and wall-ironed (DI) cans, the substrate steel grade is applicable to L or D. The grade designation consists of the substrate steel grade, the temper grade designation, the annealing method code and the code DI.
Example: LT-3BADI, DT-2.5CADI.
4.2.3 For plates and strips used for manufacturing plain food cans (with tin coating weight above 5.6/2.8 g/m²) for acidic contents, i.e. K-plate, the substrate steel grade is generally L. The grade designation generally consists of the substrate steel grade L, the temper grade designation, the annealing method code and the code K.
Example: LT-2.5CAK.
4.2.4 For plates and strips used for manufacturing food cans (CP) requiring chemical passivation treatment, such as for mushrooms, the substrate steel grade is generally MR or L. The grade designation consists of the substrate steel grade MR or L, the temper grade designation, the annealing method code and the code CP.
Example: MRT-2.5CACP, LT-3BACP.
4.2.5 For high-elongation double-cold-reduced plates and strips, i.e. EL plates, the grade designation consists of the substrate steel grade code, the temper grade designation, the annealing method code, the surface treatment method code and the code EL. When the surface treatment method is electrochemical passivation, CE may be omitted.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

electrolytic tinplate
Cold-reduced low-carbon steel plate or strip with a tin coating deposited on both surfaces by a continuous electrolytic tinning process.
3.2
differential coated electrolytic tinplate
Electrolytic tinplate with different tin coating weights on the two surfaces.

single cold-reduced (SR)

4.1 Classification and designation
The classification and designation of plates and strips shall comply with Table 1.
4.2 Grades and designation method
4.2.1 For plates and strips for general purposes, the grade designation generally consists of the steel grade code for the substrate, the temper grade designation and the annealing method code.
Example: MRT-2.5CA, LT-3BA, MRDR-8BA.
