GB/T 26731-2024 Treatment and processing of end-of-life tyres
1 Scope
This document specifies the treatment and processing methods as well as safety and environmental protection requirements for end-of-life tyres.
This document is applicable to the treatment and processing of end-of-life tyres.
2 Normative references
The following documents contain requirements which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.
GB 4655 Safety rules of static electricity in the rubber industry
GB 8978 Integrated wastewater discharge standard
GB 12348 Emission standard for industrial enterprises noise at boundary
GB 14554 Emission standards for odor pollutants
GB 15577 Safety regulations for dust explosion prevention and protection
GB 16297 Integrated emission standard of air pollutants
GB 31571 Emission standard of pollutants for petroleum chemistry industry
GB 50058 Code for design of electrical installations in explosive atmospheres

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
end-of-life tyres
tyre that has lost its original use value and cannot be renovated to be used on a vehicle wheel and a machine wheel any more
3.2
pyrolysis
process of heating and decomposing end-of-life tyres under oxygen-free or oxygen-poor conditions
4 Treatment and processing methods
4.1 General
The treatment and processing methods of end-of-life tyres mainly include preparation of vulcanized rubber powder, preparation of recycled rubber, pyrolysis and prototype utilization. Priority shall be given to material recycling methods such preparation of vulcanized rubber powder, preparation of recycled rubber and pyrolysis. The recycled products, such as rubber powder, recycled rubber, pyrolysis recycled carbon black, and end-of-life tyre (rubber) recycled oil, can substitute some petrochemical-based materials to manufacture tyres, rubber products, building materials, etc.
Note: Material recycling refers to the process of reprocessing end-of-life tyres into products or materials for various purposes.
4.2 Preparation of vulcanized rubber powder
4.2.1 Overview
The end-of-life tyres are broken up and ground into vulcanized rubber powder with different particle sizes. The process flow for preparation of vulcanized rubber powder is to break up the end-of-life tyres by step-by-step after the bead wire is separated to achieve the required particle size.
The main methods for preparation of vulcanized rubber powder include room temperature method and freezing method.
4.2.2 Room temperature method
Under room temperature conditions, end-of-life tyres are made into vulcanized rubber powder by shearing, tearing, rolling, etc. The main methods include rolling cutting method, roller method, grinding disc method and cone grinding method. The schematic diagram of the process flow is shown in Figure 1.
The main equipment for preparing vulcanized rubber powder by room temperature method is bead separator, breaker, coarse breaker, rubber breaker, magnetic separator, fiber separator (optional), fine crusher, screening machine, etc.
