1 Scope
This standard specifies the determination method of friction torque of rotary shaft lip-type seals.
This standard is applicable to determining the friction torque of rotary shaft lip-type seals (hereinafter referred to as seals).

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 13871.2 and GB/T 21283.2 apply.
4 Test equipment
4.1 The friction torque test equipment shall consist of an adjustable eccentric housing, a rotating part and a torque sensor. See Figure 1 for the schematic diagram of a typical test equipment.
4.2 The precision of torque sensor shall not be lower than ±0.5% FSR; other parts shall meet the requirements of GB/T 13871.4-2007, 5.1.
Note: FSR is the abbreviation of Full-Scale Range.
5 Specimen
At least three seal specimens shall be available.
6 Measurement prior to the test
The following data shall be measured prior to the test:
a) the outside diameter and roundness of the specimen;
b) the diameter of the column lip of the specimen;
c) the diameter of the minor lip of the specimen (if any);
d) measure the radial force of the major lip of the specimen according to HG/T 2069;
e) diameter and surface roughness of the housing bore of the seal;
f) diameter, surface roughness and surface hardness of test shaft.
