1 Scope
This document describes the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) determination method for 18 varieties of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in furniture products and related materials.
This document is applicable to the determination of 18 varieties of PAHs in furniture products and related materials.
2 Normative references
No normative reference is listed in this document.
3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons; PAHs
a series of hydrocarbon compounds and their derivatives fused by two or more benzene rings on which there may also be short alkyl or cycloalkyl substituents
Notes: See Table A.1 in Annex A for the 18 varieties of PAHs.
4 Principle
The specimen is subjected to ultrasonic extraction with toluene, purified by silica solid phase extraction column, and then concentrated to volume. After that, it is determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and quantified by external standard method in the selective ion monitoring mode.
5 Reagents or materials
5.1 n-Hexane: chromatographically pure.
5.2 Petroleum ether: chromatographically pure.
5.3 Methylbenzene: chromatographically pure.
5.4 Nitrogen: with a purity of 99.99% or better.
5.5 Helium: with a purity of 99.999% or better.
5.6 Reference materials of 18 varieties of PAHs: with a purity of 98% or better; or certified mixed standard solution of the 18 varieties of PAHs with their concentrations known.
5.7 Mixed standard working solution of the 18 varieties of PAHs: at least 5 calibration points, covering samples with a concentration ranging from 0.2 mg/kg to 10 mg/kg. That is, the concentration of the standard solution ranges from 10 ng/mL to 500 ng/Ml. This mixed standard working solution of PAHs shall be sealed and stored in a place away from light at 0℃~4℃.
5.8 Silica solid phase extraction column: 2g/10 mL or equivalent, soaked with n-hexane before use.
5.9 Centrifuge tube.
5.10 Sample bottle: about 50 mL in volume, provided with a cover for seal.
5.11 Membrane: organic syringe membrane, with an aperture of 0.45 μm.
