1 Scope
This standard specifies the determination method of cationic-active matter in surface active agents and detergents.
This standard is applicable to determine the cationic-active matter, e.g.:
a) Single-, dual- and tri-alkyl tertiary amine quaternary ammonium salt, and sulfuric acid methyl ester quaternary ammonium salt;
b) Long-chain amide ethyl and alkyl imidazolinium or 3-methyl imidazolinium;
c) Amine oxide and alkyl pyridinium.
This standard is applicable to solid active matter or active matter water solution. If its content is expressed in mass fraction, %, the mean relative molecular mass of cationic-active matter must be known or determined in advance.
This standard is not applicable to the determination when anionic or amphoteric surface active agent exists.
Note: for tosylate and xylenesulfonate with relatively low molecular mass adopted as the cosolvent, when their concentration (mass fraction) relative to active matter is less than or equal to 15%, there is no interference. If the concentration is greater, its influence shall be considered.
Non-ionic surface active agent, soap, urea and edetate will not generate interference. Typical inorganic constituents of detergent formula, such as sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium borate, peroxydol and sodium silicate, will not generate interference. However, other bleaching agents other than perborate shall be damaged before analysis.
