1 Scope
This part of GB/T 5359 specifies the general principle, terms and definitions for mass of motorcycles and mopeds.
This part is applicable to motorcycles and mopeds (hereinafter referred to as “motorcycles”) defined in GB/T 5359.1.

The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this part of GB/T 5359, constitute provisions of this part. For dated references, subsequent amendments to (excluding correction to), or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this part are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. For undated references, the latest editions apply to this part.

3 General principles
Unless otherwise stated, the following requirements shall be met:
a) “Mass" refers to the essential amount that produces weight phenomenon and inertia phenomenon of a motorcycle, i.e. the amount that is expressed in terms of resistance to acceleration;
b) "Load" refers to the force transmitted by the motorcycle to a horizontal plane of contact, under static conditions;
c) The supporting surface for the motorcycle and any surface used on a measuring device are horizontal and in the same plane;
d) The motorcycle is stationary and the engine is not running, its wheels being in the straight-ahead position;
e) “Motorcycles” refers to vehicles are new from the manufacturer and normally equipped;
f) The tyre pressure shall reach the pressure specified in the technical documents of the vehicle manufacturer.
