1 Scope
This standard specifies the principle, method, reference sample, equipment, conditions, procedure, result evaluation and report for ultrasonic testing of seamless steel tubes.
This standard is applicable to the ultrasonic testing for longitudinal and transverse flaws of seamless steel tubes for various purposes. The testing methods stated in this standard are mainly applicable to testing the flaws that destroy the metal continuity of steel tubes, but cannot effectively test laminar flaws.
This standard is applicable to steel tubes with an outside diameter greater than or equal to 6mm, and with an thickness-to-outside diameter ratio not greater than 0.2. For tubes with a wall thickness-to-outside diameter ratio larger than 0.2, special method shall be determined by purchaser and manufacturer according to Annex A.
