1 Scope
This standard specifies regulations governing the layout of driver’s cabs of locomotives.
This standard is applicable to the electric locomotives, diesel locomotives, motor train units and newly-manufactured locomotives used for international combined transport.
Principles involved in this standard are also applicable to shunting engine.

3 Layout of Driver’s Cabs
All the devices in the driver’s cab may be manipulated by one person.
3.1 Layout of driver’s seat
3.1.1 One driver’s seat shall be arranged at both sides of the driver’s cab, the position of the driver's seat shall be such that he can be seated facing the track when driving. The driver shall be seated on the left side of the cab; it may also be possible for the driver to driver the locomotive from a standing position so as to observe while driving.
3.1.2 A seat shall also be prepared in the driver’s cab for a second man.
3.2 Working environment in the driver’s cab
3.2.1 Adequate space shall be provided in the driver’s cabs, every point of which shall be accessible by the driver conveniently. They shall be at least 2000mm in height and measured at the eye level of the driver when seated; there shall be a minimum of 1200mm between the inner side of the front window and the nearest object situated behind the driver's seat: partition, door, chest, etc. Wherever possible, however, this distance shall not be less than 1500mm over a width of 2000mm at least (see Figure 1).
