1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms, definitions, designation system and classification system of ropes.
This standard is applicable to the formulation (revision) of rope standards and the common terms in the rope production and use.
2 Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this standard, the following terms and definitions apply.
2.1 Wires

Outer wire
wire positioned in the outer layer of a rope.
2.1.1.2
Outer wire
wire positioned in the outer layer of wires in the outer strands of a rope.
2.1.2 Inner wires
2.1.2.1
Inner wire
wire of the intermediate layers of a rope positioned between the center wires and outer layer.
2.1.2.2
Inner wire
any wire of a rope other than its center wires, filler wires, core wires or outer wires.
2.1.3
Filler wire
Comparatively small wire used in filler constructions to fill up the interstices between layers of wires. See Figure 8.
