HB 5396-1988 Classification standard for sponge porosity in X-ray radiographic inspection of aluminum alloy castings
1 Application scope
1.1 This standard shall be used as the classification basis for assessing the severity of sponge porosity in aluminum alloy castings during X-ray radiographic inspection.
1.2 This standard is applicable to all aluminum alloy castings except die-castings.
2 Thickness grouping
For the purpose of this standard, the thickness is divided into two groups:
Group I: 6mm, applicable to castings with wall thickness less than 13mm.
Group II: 20mm, applicable to castings with wall thickness of 13mm to 50mm.
3 Porosity grading
Each group of thickness in this standard is divided into five grades, namely, Grades 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5.
