Non-destructive testing - Materials for magnetic particle testing
1 Scope
This standard specifies the classification, technical requirements and inspection methods of materials (or testing medium, including magnetic ink, dry magnetic powders, carrier fluid and contrast aid paints) for magnetic particle testing.
This standard is applicable to type inspection and batch inspection of testing medium.
It may also be used as the basis for acceptance of user orders.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this standard, the terms and definitions established in GB/T 12604.5 apply.
4 Safety precautions
Materials for magnetic particle testing and chemicals for inspection may be harmful, flammable and/or volatile, so the precautions should be followed. All national and local laws and regulations on safety, sanitation and environmental protection shall be observed.
5 Classification
5.1 General
Materials for magnetic particle testing covered by this standard shall be classified as follows.
5.2 Magnetic ink
Magnetic ink shall be composed of color magnetic particles or fluorescent magnetic particles added with suitable carrier fluid, and shall be in uniform suspension by stirring.
Magnetic ink may be prepared from purchased concentrated products (including magnetic paste and dry magnetic powder), or be used directly.
5.3 Dry magnetic powder
Dry magnetic powder used for dry method shall be subdivided into color and/or fluorescent magnetic particles.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Batching rules
Each batch consists of the magnetic particle products with the same performance and marked with specific symbols that are put into production at the same time.
6.2 Inspection classification
6.2.1 Type inspection
Type inspection should be carried out in one of the following cases:
a) when new production or production shift occurs or the production is resumed after a halt;
b) when the material or process changes;
c) when it is stipulated in the contract;
d) when more than six months have passed since the previous type inspection.
Type inspection of materials for magnetic particle testing shall be carried out according to the requirements of GB/T 15822. The purpose of type inspection is to verify the suitability of the product for the intended use. It shall be conducted by an independent laboratory 1).
The independent laboratory shall issue an inspection report in accordance with this standard.
6.2.2 Batch inspection (or end-of-manufacturing inspection)
The batch inspection in this standard shall refer to inspection to each batch of products according to GB/T 15822. The purpose of batch inspection is to verify that the characteristics of this batch are consistent with the approved type inspection products.
If an agreement is reached at the time of ordering, the manufacturer or supplier of materials for magnetic particle testing shall provide inspection certificates to show which methods are used according to this standard. The certificate shall include the inspection

1 Scope
This standard specifies the classification, technical requirements and inspection methods of materials (or testing medium, including magnetic ink, dry magnetic powders, carrier fluid and contrast aid paints) for magnetic particle testing.

3 Terms and definitions
