1 Scope
This specification specifies the selection of tanks for tank farms of storage and transportation system in petrochemical industry, and the design principles and technical requirements for the normal-pressure, low-pressure and pressure tank farms.
This specification is applicable to the design of new construction, renovation and expansion projects of tank farms used for storing the liquid materials (including raw materials, intermediate raw materials, finished products and auxiliary production materials) storage and transportation systems in petrochemical and coal chemical enterprises. It is not applicable to the design of the low-temperature, normal-pressure tank farms for the liquefied hydrocarbon.

3 Basic Requirement
3.1 Tank farms shall be arranged in combination with the flow direction of liquid materials, and it is advisable to make use of terrain to transport liquid materials in their own flow. The classification and arrangement of tanks shall conform to the relevant requirements of GB 50160 and shall conform to the following principles:
a) The raw material and the intermediate raw material tank farms should be approached to the corresponding processing units;
b) The product tank farm should be approached to the loading platform or loading pier;
c) The tanks for the liquids of the similar properties should be arranged together.;
d) The tanks with a large number of connecting pipes or a large pipe diameter should be arranged near the inlet and outlet of the pipes of the tank group.
3.2 The bottom elevation of tanks shall meet the following requirements:
a) Meet the suction requirements of the pump;
b) Meet the installation size requirements for connecting the front branch pipeline to the main pipeline.
3.3 The storage temperature of the flammable liquid shall be determined according to the following principles:
a) Higher than the solidifying point (or crystallizing point) of the flammable liquid, but lower than the initial boiling point;
b) The mass of the flammable liquid shall be ensured so as to reduce loss;
c) The normal transportation of the flammable liquid shall be ensured;
d) The settlement and dewatering requirements of the flammable liquids shall be met;
e) If the flammable liquid has any additive, then its storage temperature shall meet the special requirements of the additive;
f) The relevant heat energy shall be utilized rationally;
g) The storage temperature of the stored flammable liquid that needs to be heated shall be lower than the spontaneous ignition temperature hereof;
h) As for some liquid chemicals that have special properties, the determined storage temperature shall be able to avoid the generation of autopolymer and oxide.
