Technical Standard of Intelligent Pigging on Steel Pipeline
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the technical requirements for implementation of pipeline geometric distortion and metal-loss inspection. It specifies the construction preparation, construction procedure controlling, inspection report contents and acceptance method.
This Standard is applicable to intelligent pigging on overland steel pipeline in which the transmission medium is gas or liquid.
For the intelligent pigging on submarine steel pipeline in which the transmission medium is gas or liquid, the implementation of it may refer to this Standard.

3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard.
3.1 Intelligent Pigging or Smart Pigging
It refers to the inspection that completed by using the detector which is operating inside the pipeline and may collect and record the real-time information of the pipeline, also called as intelligent inspection.
3.2 Geometry Pigging
It refers to the intelligent pigging implemented for the purpose of inspecting the geometric distortion situation of the pipeline.
3.3 Corrosion Pigging
It refers to the intelligent pigging implemented for the purpose of inspecting the metal-loss such as pipe wall corrosion and mechanical damage.
3.4 Gauge Plate
It refers to the round soft metal plate installed on the pipeline pig with its diameter less than the minimum inside diameter of the normal pipeline (generally use aluminium plate). It used to discover a given mass of changes of the pipe diameter.
3.5 Dummy Tool
It refers to the pipeline pig whose appearance is similar to detector and throughput capacity is the same with detector.
3.6 Marking
It refers to the work that installing ground survey reference point for the purpose of achieving feature accurate positioning of the inspected pipeline.
3.7 Above Ground Marker
It refers to the equipment which can inspect and record the get through of the detector, or the signal sent by it can be inspected by the detector.
3.8 Pipeline Feature
It refers to metal-loss, depression, ellipticity deformation of the pipe wall and pipeline auxiliary facilities inspected by the detector.
3.9 (POD) Probability of Detection
It refers to the probability of the pipeline characteristic which can be inspected by the detector.
3.10 (Conf) Confidence
It refers to the coincidence rate of the inspection report data and the pipeline actual conditions.
3.11 Internal Metal-Loss Features
It refers to the metal-loss which is occurred at the internal surface of the pipe wall and inside of the pipe body.
3.12 External Metal-Loss Features
It refers to the metal-loss which is occurred at the outside surface of the pipe wall.
3.13 (ERF) Estimated Repair Factor
It refers to the ratio between the maximum allowed operation pressure and the safety operation pressure calculated by the estimating method of metal-loss.
