Compacted strand ropes
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification and mark, order content, materials, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, acceptance methods, packaging, marking, and product quality certificate, as well as safe use and maintenance of compacted strand ropes.
This standard is applicable to compacted strand ropes [hereinafter referred to as "rope(s)"] used for mine shaft lifting, blast furnace hoisting, large pouring, petroleum drilling, large hoisting, boat, offshore facility, aerial ropeway, construction machinery and hoisting machinery, etc.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 8706 and the following apply.
3.1
compacted strand
strand in which the wire shape and the strand size are changed while the metal cross-sectional area of the wire remains basically unchanged after deformation processing such as die drawing, rolling, or forging

3.2
rope lay length
distance between the two corresponding points where the outer strand makes one complete turn (or helix) about and is parallel to the rope axis (see Figure 1)

3.3
lay direction of rope
lay direction of outer strands in the rope along the rope axis, that is, right lay (Z) or left lay (S) (see Figure 2)

3.4
ordinary lay
lay mode in which the lay direction of wire in the outer strand is opposite to that of the outer strand in the rope (see Figure 3)
Note: The first lowercase letter indicates the lay direction of the strand, and the second uppercase letter indicates the lay direction of rope.

lang lay
lay mode in which the lay direction of wire in the outer strand is the same as that of outer strand in the rope (see Figure 4)

4 Classification and mark
4.1 Classification
According to the principles given in GB/T 8706, the ropes are divided into single-layer rope, rotation-resistant rope and parallel-closed rope, as shown in Table 1.
