1 Application scope
This standard specifies the limits and measurement methods for exhaust emissions at normal temperature and low temperature, exhaust emissions at double idling speed, crankcase emissions and evaporative emissions as well as the technical requirements and measurement methods for the durability of pollution control devices and the onboard diagnostic system (hereinafter referred to as “OBD system”) of the light-duty vehicles equipped with positive-ignition engines.
This standard specifies the limits and measurement methods for exhaust emissions at normal temperature and smoke opacity at free acceleration as well as the technical requirements and measurement methods for the durability of pollution control devices and the OBD system of the light-duty vehicles equipped with compression-ignition engines.
The standard specifies the type approval requirements, and the check for and procedure for verifying the production conformity and in-service conformity of light-duty vehicles.
This standard also specifies the special requirements for the light-duty vehicles fuelled with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) or natural gas (NG).
This standard also specifies the type approval procedure in terms of emissions for the replacement pollution control devices intended to be installed on the light-duty vehicles as separate technical units.
This standard also specifies the technical requirements for vehicles that use a reagent for the exhaust after-treatment system and the emission test procedure for a vehicle equipped with a periodically regenerating system.
The standard is applicable to the light-duty vehicles equipped with positive-ignition engine or compression-ignition engine and with the maximum design speed larger than or equal to 50km/h (including the hybrid electric vehicles).
At the manufacturer's request, the vehicle of category M1, M2 and N2 with a maximum mass exceeding 3,500kg but a reference mass not exceeding 2,610kg may be subjected to type approval in accordance with this standard; the vehicle types with the type approval granted under this standard may be extended from vehicles mentioned above to vehicles of category M1, M2, N1 and N2 with a reference mass not exceeding 2,840kg and which meet the corresponding requirements.
This standard is not applicable to the vehicles which have been granted with type approval of China V under GB 17691-2005.
