1 Scope
This part specifies the test methods for biological toxicity of some pollutants used or generated in marine petroleum exploration and exploitation and then discharged into the ocean as well as requirements for the sample processing, tested organisms, test procedures, result judgment and quality control all in the test methods.
This part is applicable to the biological toxicity test on drilling fluids, base fluids, drill cuttings and produced water used or generated in marine petroleum exploration and exploitation and then discharged into the ocean, and it also serves as a reference for the biological toxicity test on other pollutants not defined in this part.
2 Normative References
The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this part, constitute provisions of this part. For dated reference, subsequent amendments to (excluding corrections), or revisions of, any of these publications do not apply. However, all parties coming to an agreement according to this part are encouraged to study whether the latest editions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies.

3 Terms and Definitions
For purpose of this part, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 Static biological toxicity test
The test for observing and determining the abnormal effect or death effect of organisms without replacing the test solution during test.
3.2 No observed effect concentration (NOEC)
The maximum concentration having no obvious influence on tested organisms, which is judged by observing the adverse impact of tested organisms and comparing the statistic analysis results respectively obtained in both test group and control group after the tested organisms are exposed in a group of test solutions with different concentrations for a certain time.
3.3 Half lethal concentration
LC50
The toxicant concentration causing the death of 50% of tested organisms within certain observation period.
[As defined in Article 3.10 in GB 17378.7-2007]
3.4 Half effective concentration
