1 Scope
This standard specifies the requirements, test methods, inspection, marking, packaging, transportation, storage, and order (or contract) information of silicon metal.
This standard is applicable to silicon metal which produced by melting of carbon reduction with quartz in arc furnace by a reaction. The silicon metal is mainly used for the preparation of alloy, and production of polysilicon and organosilicone, etc.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies.
GB/T 8170 Rules of rounding off for numerical values & expression and judgement of limiting values
GB/T 14849
(all parts) Methods for chemical-analysis of silicon metal
3 Requirements
3.1 Grades
The silicon metal is divided into 8 grades by chemical composition. The grades are expressed as the symbol “Si” plus a four-digit number, detailed representation, see Annex A.
3.2 Chemical composition
3.2.1 Main element contents
The main element contents shall be as specified in Table 1. Requirements for other grades shall be agreed between purchaser and supplier, and stated in the order (or contract).
