Automotive passive infrared detection system
1 Scope
This document specifies the technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules for an automotive passive infrared detection system.
This document is applicable to any automotive passive infrared detection system based on an uncooled infrared focal plane detector(s) for sensing the external environment of the automobile (hereinafter referred to as the System).

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

passive infrared detection system
device that converts the infrared thermal radiation from the surface of an object into a discernible image signal(s) by means of an infrared optical system, an infrared focal plane detector and an electronic processing unit
3.2
sensor resolution
number of pixels that the detector can divide an image into
Note: Generally expressed by the number of pixels in horizontal direction × the number of pixels in vertical direction, with each image pixel as a unit.
3.3
frame sampling frequency
reciprocal of the time interval between two adjacent frames
Note: Expressed in Hz.
3.4
white hot mode
mode in which higher thermal IR energy is mapped as high brightness and lower thermal IR energy as low brightness for display

1 Scope
This document specifies the technical requirements, test methods and inspection rules for an automotive passive infrared detection system.
This document is applicable to any automotive passive infrared detection system based on an uncooled infrared focal plane detector(s) for sensing the external environment of the automobile (hereinafter referred to as the System).
