1 Scope
This part defines the terms of integrated nouns for railway vehicle (hereinafter referred to as vehicle) such as type, direction and position, main dimension, weight, performance and parameters, test, etc.
This part is applicable to standards, technical documents and scientific publications, etc. regarding railway vehicle.
2 Type of Vehicle
2.1
Railway vehicle; railway car
The unit transportation tool that is used for carrying passenger and cargo on the railway track and that used after marshalling in passenger train and freight train for the purpose of the said services or in principle, referred to as "vehicle".
2.2
Carriage; passenger car; coach
The vehicle that is used for carrying passenger and that used after marshalling in passenger train for the purpose of the said service or in principle.
2.3
Tilting train passenger coach
The passenger car that is provided with tilting system, making the car body inclined when passing the curve line so as to raise the speed limit.
2.4
Double-deck coach; double-deck passenger car
The passenger car that is arranged with upper and lower compartments.
2.5
Common passenger car
The passenger car of which the maximum running speed is not greater than 200km/h.
2.6
High-speed passenger car
The passenger car of which the maximum running speed is greater than 200km/h.
2.7
First class passenger car
The passenger car that is of less seating capacity and high ride comfort.
2.8
Second class passenger car
The passenger car that is of less seating capacity and higher ride comfort.
