QC/T 1086-2026 Specifications and test methods for range extender of electric vehicles
1 Scope
This document specifies the requirements, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage requirements for range extenders for electric vehicles, and describes the corresponding test methods.
This document is applicable to range extenders for electric vehicles composed of internal combustion engines, generators (including integrated configuration of generator and drive motor) and controllers.
Note: In this document, internal combustion engines specifically refer to compression-ignition and positive-ignition engines.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 19596 and GB/T 15089 as well as the following apply.
3.1
range extender
on-board power supply device composed of an internal combustion engine, a generator (including the integrated configuration of generator and drive motor) and a controller, used to extend the driving range of electric vehicles
3.2
energy transformation ratio
electric energy generated per unit of fuel consumed
3.3
continuous power
maximum generated power that the range extender can continuously output for a long time at rated voltage
3.4
30min continuous power
maximum generated power that the range extender can continuously output for 30min at rated voltage
3.5
peak power
maximum generated power that the range extender can output for a short time at rated voltage
3.6
steady working point
working point at which the range extender maintains a power output state for a long time after starting
3.7
steady working speed
average speed of the internal combustion engine when the range extender operates at a steady working point
3.8
minimum steady power
minimum controllable output power among all steady working points of the range extender
3.9
rated speed
maximum working speed at which the generator of the range extender can output continuous power
3.10
maximum working speed
maximum speed at which the range extender can operate stably at peak power
3.11
power control accuracy
maximum steady deviation between the actual generated power and the target generated power, or the percentage of the maximum steady deviation between the actual generated power and the target generated power to the target generated power
4 Requirements
4.1 General requirements
4.1.1 The range extender shall be free from obvious damage and deformation on its outer surface, and the coating layer shall be free from peeling. The leads or terminals shall be intact, and their fastener connections shall not be loose.
4.1.2 The range extender products shall be manufactured according to the product drawings and technical documents approved via established procedure, and the parts and components shall meet the requirements of relevant standards.
4.2 Output characteristics
4.2.1 30min continuous power
The 30min continuous power of the range extender under normal temperature conditions and under high temperature conditions shall meet the requirements of the product technical documents.
4.2.2 Peak power
4.2.2.1 For vehicles of Categories M1 and N1, the peak power of their range extenders for 10s shall not be less than that specified in the product technical documents, and during the output, there shall be no alarm or abnormality.
4.2.2.2 For vehicles other than those of Categories M1 and N1, the peak power of their range extenders for 30s shall not be less than that specified in the product technical documents, and during the output, there shall be no alarm or abnormality.
4.2.3 Power control accuracy
For range extenders with a power control function, the power control accuracy shall meet those specified in Table 1.

4.2.4 Ripple voltage
The ripple voltage shall meet the requirements of Annex B, ISO 21498-2: 2024.
4.2.5 Energy transformation ratio
The energy transformation ratio of the range extender shall meet the requirements of the product technical documents.
4.3 Response characteristics
4.3.1 Start characteristics
The starting time of the range extender shall not exceed 2s, the speed overshoot shall not

4 Requirements
4.1 General requirements
