This standard is applicable to manufacturing bright and zinc-coated carbon steel wires of round section for steel wire ropes of different functions.

3 Classification
3.1 Classified according to the surface condition of steel wires: bright and zinc-coated. The galvanized steel wires are divided into three classes: Class B, Class AB and Class A.
3.2 Classified according to the quality grade of steel wire: steel wire for major purpose and steel wire for general purpose.
4 Dimension, Appearance and Permissible Deviation
4.1 Diameter
4.1.1 Nominal diameter
The nominal diameter refers to a nominal dimension (in mm) designated the supplier and the purchaser, which is used to carry out inspection and acceptance on the technical indexes of steel wire.
4.1.2 Measured diameter
The measured diameter refers to the arithmetic average of two measuring results on the orthogonal direction of the same section.
4.1.3 Permissible deviation of diameter
The permissible deviation of steel wire diameter shall be in accordance with those specified in Table 1.
