3. Terminology
3.1 working earthing, system earthing
the earthing (e.g. neutral point direct earthing or earthing with other installations) required for operation, in the electrical devices of power system
3.2 protective earthing
the earthing for preventing metal enclosure of electrical apparatus, framework of power distribution device, line pole/tower, etc. which may be possibly live due to damaged insulation, from endangering the personnel and equipment safety
3.3 lightning protection earthing
the earthing set for discharging the lightning current from the lightning protection installation (e.g. lightning rod, lightning conductor and lightning arrester) to the ground
3.4 electrostatic earthing
the earthing set for preventing the static electricity from endangering electronic information system, flammable oil, natural gas tank, petrochemical plant and pipelines
3.5 earth electrode
the metallic conductor and conductive module that is embedded in and directly contacts the ground. The metal structure, metal well casing, foundation of reinforced concrete building (structure), metal pipeline and equipment which is used as earth electrode is termed as natural earth electrode.
