1 Scope
This standard specifies the technical requirements, test method, matching method, quality inspection rules, use and maintenance as well as marking, instructions, storage and transport, etc. of personal arc protective equipment in electrical workplace.
This standard is applicable to the production, acceptance and use of personal arc protective equipment in power industry.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

arc hazard
personal injury or equipment damage caused by energy released by the arc
3.2
arc hazard energy
energy released by the arc received at the test distance

arc burn
compound burn to the human body within the injury distance of the strong arc light, which is generated when the current passes through the air medium or the circuit is shorted, including thermal burn caused by electric arc flash and electrical burn caused by electric current penetrating into the body. See Annex A for the severity of arc burn. This standard is applicable to the prevention of thermal burn

arc protection
protection to reduce the possible harm of arc to human body by blocking the harmful energy of incident arc when an arc occurs, so that the residual energy is not enough to cause degree II and above burns to human body

arc thermal performance value ATPV
energy value indicating that the energy incident on the arc protection material has a 50% possibility of causing thermal energy to penetrate through the material and just causing degree II burn (determined based on Stoll curve). When the external incident energy is less than the value, the material can effectively block and reduce the passing energy, so as to avoid causing degree II and above burns to human body

4 Technical requirements
4.1 Performance of personal arc protection materials
4.1.1 Performance of protective fabric
4.1.1.1 Arc protection
The arc protection performance of single-layer or multiple-layer personal arc protective fabric (referred to as fabric) shall be tested according to 5.1; the mass per unit area shall be determined according to Method 3 of GB/T 4669-2008. The fabric shall also meet the requirements of ATPV, Ebt and mass per unit area specified in Table 1. For personal arc protection equipment of level 1 and level 2, the mass per unit area of the fabric or the outer fabric shall meet those specified in Table 1. For personal arc protection equipment of level 3 and level 4, if the multi-layer fabric combination is used, the mass per unit area of the outer fabric shall meet those specified in Table 1 for level 1 and level 2; the mass per unit area of the fabric combination shall meet those specified in Table 1 for level 3 and level 4 respectively.
