本标准适用于具有串行比特编码的数据传输的远动设备和系统，用以对地理广域过程的监视和控制。制定

的网络类型，包括X.25，FR（帧中继），ATM（异步传输模式）和ISDN（综合服务数据网络）。根据相同的
定义，不同的ASDU，包括IEC 60870-5全部配套标准（例如IEC 60870-5-102）所定义的ASDU，可以与TCP／
IP相结合，不过这些在本标准中没有进一步说明。
