This standard specifies technical requirements for lateral protection of motor vehicles and trailers to effectively protect unprotected pedestrians and thus avoid them falling on the vehicle side and being caught up below wheels.
This standard is applicable to N2, N3, O3 and O4 vehicles, but not applicable to the following items:
- Semi-trailer tractor;
- Special vehicles designed and manufactured with a view to handling long goods that can't be sectioned, such as vehicles for transporting timber, steels, bars and other goods;
- Vehicles that are designed and manufactured for special purposes and that can't be installed with lateral protective devices for objective reasons.
