Fire safety signs – Part 3: Requirements for setting
1 Scope
This document specifies the locations for setting, positions for setting, requirements, installation, arrangement and operation and maintenance of fire safety signs.
This document applies to the setting of fire safety signs in places where fire safety signs are required to convey fire safety information.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB 13495.1, GB 13495.2 and the following apply.
3.1 viewing distance
The distance from the observer's eye to the centre point of a sign.
NOTE: As shown in Figure 1.
4 Locations for setting
Fire safety signs shall be set in the following locations:
a)Public buildings, residential buildings, industrial buildings;
b)Car parks, repair garages, parking lots;
c) Stations, interchange passages or connecting passages, vehicle bases, longitudinal evacuation platforms in underground sections in metro engineering, civil air defence works used in peacetime, underground pedestrian passages, traffic tunnels, utility tunnels;
d) Construction sites;
e) Production and storage areas for combustible liquids, combustible gases, oxidising gases, combustible material storage yards, automobile fuelling/filling/hydrogen refuelling stations, transport vehicles for flammable and explosive articles, public transport vehicles;
f) Tourist attractions, outdoor amusement parks, squares, openair markets, places for holding largescale mass activities and other openair places;
g) Mining areas, oil and gas fields, grasslands, forest areas.
5 Positions for setting
5.1 At fire truck access roads, fire truck access and operation areas, and positions where obstruction or interference with the use of fire fighting equipment is likely to occur, a "No obstructing" sign shall be set.
5.2 At a position where an underground fire hydrant is installed, a combination of an "Underground fire hydrant" sign and a direction auxiliary sign shall be set at a prominent location, with the direction arrow pointing to the location of the underground fire hydrant. At a position where a siamese connection is installed, a combination of a "Siamese connection" sign and a direction auxiliary sign shall be set at a prominent location, with the direction arrow pointing to the location of the siamese connection.
5.3 At a position where there is no fire fighting equipment sign corresponding to the name of the fire fighting equipment, or where fire fighting equipment is centrally stored, a "Fire fighting equipment" sign shall be set on its external surface.
5.4 For a concealed fire fighting equipment position, signs such as "Portable fire extinguisher", "Wheeled fire extinguisher", "Fire monitor", "Fire hose reel", etc., according to the name of the fire fighting equipment, and a "No obstructing" sign shall be set on its external surface. If the above signs are not set in a clearly visible position, a combination of the relevant fire fighting equipment sign and a direction auxiliary sign shall be set at a prominent location, with the direction arrow pointing to the location of the fire fighting equipment.
5.5 At the entrance to and within an area where substances that explode on contact with water are produced or stored, or where extinguishing with water would create a hazard to the surrounding environment, a "No extinguishing with water" sign shall be set.
5.6 The following fire safety signs shall be set at the following positions in public buildings, residential buildings with a building height greater than 27 m, and industrial buildings:
a)A "Safe exit" sign shall be set above a safe exit or evacuation door, or on both sides of the door frame edge;
b)A "No obstructing" sign, a "Safe exit" sign and a direction auxiliary sign used in combination shall be set in evacuation passages. The direction arrow shall point towards the nearest safe exit. The setting interval of the "Safe exit" sign and its combined direction auxiliary sign shall comply with 6.2.1.2, maintaining visual continuity;
c) For a singleswing door in a safe exit or evacuation passage, a "Push" sign shall be set on the door, and a "Pull" sign shall be set on the opposite side;
d) A "No locking" sign shall be set on a door in a safe exit or evacuation passage;
e) A "Escape ladder" sign shall be set at the position where an escape ladder is installed. If the escape ladder is not installed in a clearly visible position, a combination of an "Escape ladder" sign and a direction auxiliary sign shall be set in the evacuation passage leading to the escape ladder, with the direction arrow pointing to the direction to reach the escape ladder;
f) At a position where a glass panel or other obstruction must be broken to obtain a key, dooropening tool, etc., or where a panel must be opened to escape during evacuation, a "Break panel" sign shall be set;
g) At positions where a fire button, fire telephone, sound alarm starter device is installed, or where a sound alarm requiring manual operation is stored, a "Fire button", "Fire telephone", "Sound alarm" sign shall be set accordingly;
h) In fuelfired and gasfired boiler rooms, diesel generator rooms and oil storage rooms, and in shops, workshops, storage rooms where chemical flammable and explosive articles are stored or used, a "No open flame", "No smoking", "Warning flammable substance" sign shall be set;
i) On an evacuation door that is permitted to be opened by sliding, a "Slide open" sign shall be set. The direction of the arrow in the sign shall be consistent with the opening direction of the evacuation door.
5.7 The following fire safety signs shall be set at the following positions in car parks, repair garages and parking lots:
a)Fire safety signs specified in 5.6 a) to 5.6 g) and to be set at the positions specified therein;
b) A "No open flame" sign shall be set at the entrance.
5.8 Fire safety signs shall be set in accordance with 5.6 a) to 5.6 g) in stations, interchange passages or connecting passages, vehicle bases, longitudinal evacuation platforms in underground sections in metro engineering, civil air defence works used in peacetime, underground pedestrian passages, traffic tunnels and utility tunnels.
5.9 On construction sites, signs such as "Safe exit", "Fire extinguisher", "Fire hose reel", "Warning flammable substance", "No open flame", "No smoking", etc., shall be set synchronously with the progress of construction.
5.10 The following fire safety signs shall be set at the following positions in production and storage areas for combustible liquids, combustible gases, oxidising gases, combustible material storage yards, automobile fuelling/filling/hydrogen refuelling stations, transport vehicles for flammable and explosive articles, and public transport vehicles:
a)At the entrance to or within the fire zone of a production or storage area for combustible liquids or combustible gases, or a combustible material storage yard, a "No open flame", "No smoking", "Warning flammable substance", "Warning explosive substance" sign shall be set. At the entrance to or within the fire zone of a production or storage area for oxidising gases or oxides, a "Warning oxidising substance" sign shall be set;
b)At an automobile fuelling/filling/hydrogen refuelling station, a "No open flame", "No smoking", "Warning flammable substance", "Warning explosive substance" sign shall be set at a prominent position;
c) On a transport vehicle for flammable and explosive articles, a "No open flame", "Warning flammable substance", "Warning explosive substance" sign shall be set;
d) In a public transport vehicle, a "No smoking" sign shall be set at a prominent position.
5.11 The following fire safety signs shall be set at the following positions in openair places such as tourist attractions, outdoor amusement parks, squares, openair markets, places for holding largescale mass activities, etc.:
a)At the entrance to a tourist attraction, outdoor amusement park, square, or place for holding a largescale mass activity where carrying tinder, flammable or explosive articles is prohibited, a "No open flame" sign shall be set;
b) In the storage area for flammable and explosive articles in an openair market, a "No open flame", "Warning flammable substance", "Warning explosive substance" sign shall be set;
c) At a safe exit or evacuation passage in a place for holding a largescale mass activity, a "Safe exit", "No obstructing" sign shall be set.
5.12 At the entrance to and within the fire zone of a mining area, oil and gas field, grassland or forest area, a "No open flame", "No smoking" sign shall be set.
5.13 Other positions where fire safety signs are required to be set by national standards.

3 Terms and definitions

5 Positions for setting
