1 Scope
This document defines the terms for fire hose reels, specifies classification and model designation, performance requirements, inspection rules, and marking, instruction manual and packaging, and describes the corresponding test methods.
This document applies to fire hose reels using water, dry powder or foam extinguishing agents.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 fire hose reel
A fire extinguishing appliance consisting of a valve, inlet piping, side plates, a drum, a hose and a nozzle, etc., capable of discharging extinguishing agent during the rapid deployment of the hose.
NOTE: Hereinafter referred to as "hose reel".
3.2 water hose reel
A hose reel that conveys water as the extinguishing agent.
3.3 dry powder hose reel
A hose reel that conveys dry powder as the extinguishing agent.
3.4 foam hose reel
A hose reel that conveys foam as the extinguishing agent.
3.5 nozzle with a straight stream
A discharge nozzle that discharges a solid stream and has opening and closing functions.
3.6 combination nozzle with a straight stream and a spray stream
A discharge nozzle capable of discharging both a solid stream and a spray stream, and having opening and closing functions.
3.7 nozzle with a solid stream and a safeguarding water stream
A discharge nozzle capable of discharging both a solid stream and a safeguarding water stream, and having opening and closing functions.
3.8 dry powder combination nozzle
A discharge nozzle that uses dry powder as the extinguishing agent.
3.9 foam combination nozzle
A discharge nozzle that uses foam solution as the extinguishing agent.
3.10 reach
For a water nozzle: 90% of the distance from the centre of the nozzle outlet to the vertical projection point on the ground of the farthest point where the water stream continuously falls on the discharge axis.
For a foam nozzle: 90% of the distance from the centre of the nozzle outlet to the vertical projection point on the ground of the farthest point where the foam stream continuously falls on the discharge axis.
For a dry powder nozzle: the distance from the discharge axis to the vertical projection point on the ground of the row with the greatest dry powder mass in the powder collection tray.
3.11 spray angle
The angle between the edges of a spray stream.
4 Classification and model
4.1 Classification
4.1.1 Hose reels may be classified according to the characteristics of the extinguishing agent used as:
a)Water hose reels;
b)Dry powder hose reels;
c) Foam hose reels;
d) Combined agent hose reels.
4.1.2 Hose reels may be classified according to the characteristics of the application as:
Hose reels for fire fighting vehicles;
b) Hose reels for non-fire fighting vehicles.
4.1.3 Hose reels may be classified according to the characteristics of the nozzle as:
a)Hose reels with a straight stream nozzle;
b) Hose reels with a straight/spray stream combination nozzle;
c) Hose reels with a solid/safeguarding water stream nozzle;
d) Hose reels with a dry powder combination nozzle;
e) Hose reels with a foam combination nozzle;
f) Hose reels with a combined agent combination nozzle.
4.2 Model
4.2.1 The model of a hose reel consists of the code for the extinguishing agent characteristics, the code for the application characteristics, the rated working pressure, the hose inside diameter and length, and the code for the nozzle characteristics. The designation rules are shown in Figure 1.
4.2.2 The representation methods for each characteristic code are shown in Table 1.
4.2.3 Examples of model designation are as follows:
Example 1: A hose reel with water as the extinguishing agent, rated working pressure of 1.6 MPa, hose inside diameter of 19 mm, hose length of 20 m, for non-fire fighting vehicle use, and with a straight stream nozzle, is designated as: JPS1.6-19/20.
Example 2: A hose reel with dry powder as the extinguishing agent, rated working pressure of 1.0 MPa, hose inside diameter of 25 mm, hose length of 30 m, for fire fighting vehicle use, with a dry powder combination nozzle, and with an enterprise-defined type A, is designated as: JPFC1.0-25/30-A.
Example 3: A hose reel with water, foam and dry powder as the extinguishing agents, rated working pressure of 2.5 MPa, hose inside diameter of 25 mm, hose length of 30 m, for fire fighting vehicle use, with a straight/spray stream combination nozzle, and with an enterprise-defined copper assembly, is designated as: JPSPFC2.5-25/30W-copper assembly.
5 Performance requirements
5.1 Appearance quality
The surface of the hose reel shall be treated for corrosion resistance. The paint layer on painted parts shall be uniform and free from obvious scratches and impact damage. Welds shall be smooth, uniform and firmly welded, free from burnthrough, nodules, etc.
5.2 Construction requirements
5.2.1 The hose reel shall include two side plates. The side plate diameter shall not be greater than 700 mm. For hoses with an inside diameter of φ19 or φ25, the drum diameter shall not be less than 180 mm. For hoses with an inside diameter of φ32, the drum diameter shall not be less than 250 mm. For hoses with an inside diameter of φ38, the drum diameter shall not be less than 350 mm.
5.2.2 Valves shall comply with GB/T 13927. The opening and closing directions of manual valves shall be clearly marked. The clockwise direction shall be for closing. If a gate valve or globe valve is used, the valve shall be fully openable within three and a half turns of the handwheel. When an automatic inlet valve is used, the opening and closing directions shall be clearly marked. The automatic inlet valve shall be fully openable within three rotations of the hose reel.
5.2.3 Hose reels for fire fighting vehicles shall be provided with a safety device to ensure that the inlet valve can only be opened after the hose has been deployed.
5.2.4 The connection between the hose and the drum shall ensure that the hose near the connection point does not become flattened during hose winding.
5.3 Discharge performance
The discharge performance of hose reels shall comply with Table 2. For water hose reels, only the reach and flow rate under the straight stream condition shall be tested.
5.4 Spray water flow requirements
When the hose reel is tested for spray water flow, the discharged spray stream shall be uniform. The spray angle requirements are as follows:
