3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
walk-through metal detector
A gate-frame-shaped metal detection device standing on the ground that, when a person walks through it, is capable of detecting whether the person passing through is carrying metal that reaches or exceeds a defined quantity.
3.2
detection region
The spatial range within the pedestrian passage of the walk-through metal detector.
3.3
detection plane
A virtual plane within the detection region perpendicular to the direction of pedestrian passage, with the Y-axis perpendicular to the detection plane, and the X-axis and Z-axis parallel to the detection plane and perpendicular to each other.
3.4
positive alarm
The state in which the walk-through metal detector emits an audible and/or visual indication signal when a metal object that reaches or exceeds the defined quantity passes through the detection plane.
3.5
alarm failure
The state in which the walk-through metal detector does not emit an audible and/or visual indication signal when a metal object that reaches or exceeds the defined quantity passes through the detection plane.
3.6
false alarm
The state in which the walk-through metal detector erroneously emits an audible and/or visual indication signal when detection has not yet been carried out or when no object requiring an alarm passes through the detection plane.
3.7
detection class
A classification used to describe the detection capability of a walk-through metal detector for metal objects of different sizes and electromagnetic characteristics.
3.8
test object
A specially made metal object used to verify the performance of a walk-through metal detector and evaluate its detection class.
3.9
detection position
Based on the average height of an adult male, 12 positions selected in the detection plane, respectively located at both ankles, both legs, the crotch, both hands, the chest, both armpits, the head and the top of the head, through which the test object is to pass.
3.10
