The previous edition of this standard is as follows: ——GB 20075-2006. Passenger handholds and footrests on motorcycles 1 Scope This standard specifies the technical requirements and test methods of passenger handholds (handhold straps, hand-grip bars) and footrests of motorcycles and mopeds (hereinafter referred to as “motorcycles”). This standard is applicable to motorcycles with two wheels, the main car of the motorcycle with sidecar and right three-wheeled motorcycles with saddles. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced documents (including any amendments) applies. GB/T 5359.1 Term for motorcycles and mopeds—Part 1: Types of vehicles 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 5359.1 and the following apply. 3.1 passenger handholds device fixed on a motorcycle and held by passengers when riding Note: it includes handhold straps and hand-grip bars. 3.2 handhold straps ribbon-shaped device fixed on a motorcycle and held by passengers 3.3 hand-grip bars handle-like device fixed on a motorcycle and held by passengers 3.3.1 single hand-grip bars handle-like device fixed on the frame as a whole and held by passengers 3.3.2 two hand-grip bars handle-like device symmetrically fixed on the frame as two parts and held by passengers 3.4 footrests pedals or footboard fixed on a motorcycle for drivers and passengers to step on 3.5 assistive device device fixed on a motorcycle, which can be held by passengers or stepped on by drivers and passengers and has the functions of passenger handholds and footrests 3.6 additional device device attached to special purpose motorcycle, which can be held by passengers or stepped on by drivers and passengers and has the functions of passenger handholds and footrests 4 General requirements 4.1 Handhold straps and hand-grip bars When the motorcycle can be used to carry passengers, motorcycles of this type shall be equipped with handhold straps or hand-grip bars, and each device shall meet the requirements of this standard. If assistive or additional devices that may mislead passengers are installed, the relevant requirements of this standard shall be met. 4.2 Footrests All riding positions of motorcycles shall be equipped with footrests, and each device shall meet the requirements of this standard. The minimum dimension of the upper space plane of the footrest is 300mm long and 110mm wide, and its space position shall ensure the safe and unobstructed placement of the feet of drivers and passengers. For the footrests, the direct contact between feet/legs and rotating parts of the motorcycle (such as wheels) shall be avoided while it is running. 4.3 Others The accompanying technical documents of motorcycles shall clearly indicate the passenger handholds system, and clearly indicate the devices and their positions.   5 Special requirements 5.1 Handhold straps The handhold straps shall be installed on the seat or other accessories connected with the frame in a way convenient for passengers. The handhold straps and their connectors shall be capable of withstanding a vertical upward tension of 2,000N without breaking. The tension shall be applied statically to the center of the strap surface, and the maximum pressure shall not exceed 2MPa. See Annex A for the test method of handhold straps. 5.2 Hand-grip bars For the passenger handhold with one hand-grip bar, the hand-grip bars shall be close to the seat, perpendicular to the longitudinal center plane of the motorcycle and symmetrical bilaterally, and its position shall be convenient for the passenger to use. The hand-grip bars and their connectors shall be capable of withstanding a vertical upward tension of 2,000N without breaking. The tension shall be applied statically to the center of the hand-grip bar surface, and the maximum pressure shall not exceed 2MPa. For the passenger handhold device with two hand-grip bars, the hand-grip bars shall be symmetrically installed on both sides of the seat in a way convenient for passengers to use. Each hand-grip bar and its connectors shall be capable of withstanding a vertical upward tension of 1,000N without breaking. The tension shall be applied statically to the center of the hand-grip bar surface, and the maximum pressure shall not exceed 1MPa. See Annex B for the test method of hand-grip bars. 5.3 Footrests Pedals or footboard of the motorcycle and their connectors shall be capable of withstanding a vertical downward pressure of 1,700N without breaking and without any permanent deformation affecting its use function. For pedals, this pressure shall be applied statically 15mm from the outermost end of the pedal. For footboard, the pressure shall be applied statically in the footboard area. For footboard not marked with footrest area, the maximum pressure shall not be greater than 2MPa at a distance of 15mm from the outermost edge of the footboard. See Annex C for the test method of footrests.   6 Additional requirements Assistive or additional devices of motorcycle are classified into corresponding categories of handhold straps, hand-grip bars or footrests according to their functions; the technical requirements of relevant devices shall meet the requirements of corresponding categories of devices. 7 Implementation of this standard From the implementation data of this standard, models newly applying for type approval shall meet the requirements of this standard. From the 25th month in the implementation data of this standard, all models that have been type approved shall meet the requirements of this standard.
