GB 264-1983 Petroleum products;Determination of acid number
This method is applicable to determine the acid number of petroleum products
The amount of potassium hydroxide in milligram required to neutralize 1 g of petroleum products is referred as the acid number.
1 Method Summary
In this method, the acidic components in specimen are extracted by boiling ethanol and then titrated by potassium hydroxide solution in ethanol
2 Apparatus
2.1 Erlenmeyer flask: 250 or 300 mL.
2.2 Spherical reflux condenser: in a length about 300mm.
2.3 Micro-buret: 2mL, in a scale division of 0.02mL.
2.4 Electric hot plate or water bath.
3 Reagents
3.1 Potassium hydroxide: Pure grade 2, prepared into 0.05 N potassium hydroxide solution in ethanol.
