本标准适用于铁矿石、铁精矿、烧结矿和球团矿中含金属铁（直接还原铁）；含硫量大于0.2%（m/m），或含结合水大于2.5%（m/m）的试样，而且其测定组分分析值以干试样为基础计算大于10%（m/m）时，其吸湿水量的测定。本标准所得吸湿水的测定结果，不作为矿石试样分析结果报出，当需报告商品水分时必须采用GB 6730.2-86《铁矿石化学分析方法重量法测定水分含量》测定后报出。除上述状态的试样外，任何含量的组分的测定，可采用GB 6730.1-86《铁矿石化学分析方法分析用预干燥试样的制备》使用预干燥试样。本标准等同采用ISO 2596-1984《铁矿石分析试样中吸湿水的测定》。
