本标准提出了采用在旋转轴上直接测量的方法来测量和评定机械振动的总则。确定轴振动的目的与以下问题有关：a)振动特性的变化；b)过大的动力载荷；c)径向间隙监测。本标准适用于测量转轴绝对和相对的径向振动，但扭转振动和轴向振动除外。它适用于机器的工况监测及在试验台上和安装后的验收试验。
