GB/T 12972的本部分规定了额定电压6/10kV及以下金属屏蔽监视型软电缆产品品种、技术要求、试验方法和检验规则。
本部分适用于井下移动变压器及类似设备用铜芯金属屏蔽监视型橡皮绝缘橡皮护套软电缆。
本部分应与GB/T 12972.1共同使用。
本部分与ＧＢ１２９７２．６—１９９１相比，主要变化如下：
———名称更改为“额定电压6／10ｋＶ 及以下金属屏蔽监视型软电缆”；
———增加了额定电压6／10ｋＶ 金属屏蔽监视型软电缆及相关要求（本版的表１和表３）；
———额定电压Uo／U为3.6／6ｋＶ 电缆规格由导体截面25mm2～50mm2增加到25mm2 ～120mm2（1991年版的表2；本版的表2）；
———删除了XJ-30A型橡皮绝缘和XJ-10A型橡皮的内容（1991年版的5.3.1和5.5.1）；
———电缆局部放电试验类型中抽样试验修订为例行试验（1991年版的表4；本版的表5）；
———电缆燃烧试验由GB/T 18380.3《电缆在火焰条件下的燃烧试验　第3部分成束电线或电缆的燃烧试验方法》替代原GB/T 12666.2《单根电线电缆垂直燃烧试验方法》（1991年版的表4；本版的7.2）。
