本标准适用于传输相位或相位与幅值等一次模拟量信息的窄带及宽带远方保护系统。远方保护设备可以是单独的设备，也可以与保护装置或通信设备组装在一起。本标准不适用于宽带命令系统。本标准规定了与电力系统保护装置配合使用的模拟比较式远方保护设备的性能要求及试验方法，确定了有关术语。相位或相位与幅值等测量量可以转换为模拟或数字形式并进行比较。本标准规定的所有试验应为型式试验(见IEC50(151))。
