本标准规定了铁和钢（包括铸铁、锻铁、碳钢、低合金钢和不锈钢）上的黑色氧化膜的要求。黑色氧化膜可用来减小滑动面或支承面间的摩擦，或用于装饰，或减少光反射。这种膜无论是否经过附加防腐处理，都可用于需要黑色表面的地方；即使经过附加防腐处理，在轻度腐蚀条件下，也仅能获得很有限的腐蚀防护性能。本标准对黑色氧化前基材的状态、加工和表面粗糙度没有规定要求。
