This document is applicable to the estimation of radionuclide intake and internal dose for occupational exposure and public exposure. 2 Normative references This document has no normative references. 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 intake The activity of a radionuclide that enters the body over a given period or as a result of a specific event. 3.2 direct measurement Measurement methods for monitoring the content of radioactive material in the whole body or in organs and tissues. Note: Whole-body monitoring or local in-vivo monitoring. It is mainly used for radionuclides that emit characteristic X-rays, gamma rays, positrons and high-energy beta particles, and also for some alpha emitters that emit characteristic X-rays. 3.3 indirect measurement Measurement methods for monitoring the content of radioactive material in human excreta and other biological samples.
