1 Scope
This document describes the methods for estimating radionuclide intake and internal dose.
This document is applicable to the estimation of radionuclide intake and internal dose for occupational exposure and public exposure.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1
intake
The activity of a radionuclide that enters the body over a given period or as a result of a specific event.
3.2
direct measurement
Measurement methods for monitoring the content of radioactive material in the whole body or in organs and tissues.
Note: Whole-body monitoring or local in-vivo monitoring. It is mainly used for radionuclides that emit characteristic X-rays, gamma rays, positrons and high-energy beta particles, and also for some alpha emitters that emit characteristic X-rays.
3.3
indirect measurement
Measurement methods for monitoring the content of radioactive material in human excreta and other biological samples.
Note: It is mainly used for radionuclides that do not emit gamma rays or emit only low-energy photons, as well as radionuclides emitting high-energy beta and gamma rays.
3.4
activity median aerodynamic diameter (AMAD)
The diameter of a unit-density spherical particle such that the activity of particles greater than or less than this diameter each account for 50 % of the total activity of the measured particles, under the condition of the same terminal settling velocity in air.
