本部分与GB/T 20674的其它部分一起，适用于燃气/给水用聚乙烯管材和管件用熔接设备。聚乙烯燃气用管材和管件是符合GB/T 15558（所有部分）要求的，饮用水及一般压力输水用管材和管件是符合GB/T 13663（所有部分）要求的。
本部分适用于以电压或电流方式进行控制的电熔焊机，电熔焊机适用于采用电阻丝加热的管件。
电熔焊机分为三种输入电压等级：P1级电压（SVLV，不大于50 V）；P2级电压（LV，大于50 V且不大于250 V）；P3级电压(HV，大于250 V且不大于400 V)。
电熔焊机正常工作环境温度范围为-10 ℃～+40 ℃。
