本标准规定了由往复式（ＲＩＣ）内燃机、交流（ａ.ｃ.）发电机以及工作所需的控制装置、开关装置和辅助设备等组成的、电压不超过１０００Ｖ的发电机组的安全性要求。
本标准适用于陆用和船用发电机组。不适用于远洋航行的厢式船用发电机组、近海车用发电机组以及航空、驱动陆上车辆和机车的发电机组。用于潜在爆炸性环境时的特殊要求本标准未作规定。本标准修改采用ＥＮ１２６０１：２００１，主要侧重于保护操作使用人员安全，把操作使用人员可能遇到的危险进行了分类，并针对每种危险提出了有关操作设计、标志、试验验证等方面的要求。
