GB/T 33610.2-2017 Textiles - Determination of deodorant property - Part 2: Detector tube method 1 Scope This part of GB/T 33610 specifies a test method for determination of deodorant property of textiles using detector tube, which is applicable to the determination of ammonia, acetic acid, methyl sulfhydryl and hydrogen sulfide odor. It is applicable to various textile products. 2 Normative references The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any amendments) applies. GB/T 6529 Textiles - Standard Atmospheres for Conditioning and Testing (GB/T 6529-2008, ISO 139:2005, MOD) 3 Terms and definitions For the purposes of this standard, the following term and definition apply. 3.1 detector tube device used for the gas concentration measurement test, which is a glass tube filled by grainy chemicals which react to the odor chemicals and change color in proportion with the concentration of testing chemical Note: The concentration of chemicals can be read on the graduation printed on the surface of the glass tube. 4 Principle After the sample contacts with the odor for a predetermined period, measure the odor concentrations in the sampling bag containing the sample and the blank sampling bag using detector tube respectively and calculate the odor reduction rate (ORR) of concentration. Each chemical shall be tested individually. 5 Reagents 5.1 Ammonia water: with concentration of 28%. 5.2 Acetic acid: with purity of 99.7%. 5.3 Methyl mercaptan: standard gas with a concentration of 100 μL/L or 1,000 μL/L by nitrogen dilution. 5.4 Hydrogen sulfide: a standard gas diluted to a concentration of 100μL/L with nitrogen. 5.5 Diluent gas: dry air obtained from the mixture cylinder of nitrogen gas and oxygen gas with a purity of at least 99.99%, or nitrogen gas from the nitrogen gas cylinder with a purity of at least 99.99%. 6 Materials and apparatus 6.1 Detector tube The determination accuracy of detector tube is ±5%, and the determination range shall meet the following requirements: ——ammonia: 0.2 μL/L ~ 200 μL/L; ——acetic acid: 0.25 μL/L ~ 50 μL/L; ——methyl mercaptan: 0.5 μL/L ~ 10 μL/L; ——hydrogen sulfide: 0.2 μL/L ~ 6 μL/L. Note: Follow the manufacturer’s instruction for the usable time and condition for storage which are indicated on the detector tube. 6.2 Sampling bag Sampling bags with a volume of 1L, 5L, and 50L may be made of materials such as polyvinyl fluoride resin, polyester and polyester lamination and polyvinyl alcohol. Plastic or rubber tubes shall be installed for sampling bags before testing. 6.3 Air pump Air pump, capable of drawing air with a flow rate of 0.2 L/min and 5 L/min with the attached flow meter. If the attached flow meter is not available, the integrating flow meter shall be used. 6.4 Integrating flow meter A device that may measure the gas flow at 500 mL/min and above. 6.5 Syringe A device made of a glass cylinder with a capacity of 0.5 mL and 100 mL. 6.6 Sealing strip The sealing strip shall achieve a strict sealing effect. 7 Preparation of sample gas 7.1 General requirements The test for each odor component chemical is performed separately. Prepare each odor component chemical just before the test. Note: Other gas preparation methods may also be used, such as using a standard gas generation instrument. 7.2 Ammonia 7.2.1 Preparation of ammonia 7.2.1.1 Thoroughly clean 1 L-sampling bag (6.2) with diluent gas (5.5).
