Electricity metering equipment - Embedded software - General requirements
1 Scope
This document specifies the software composition and technical requirements for embedded software of electricity metering equipment, and describes the corresponding verification methods.
This document is applicable to the design, research and development (R&D), maintenance and upgrade, testing, and other activities of embedded software for electricity metering equipment (hereinafter referred to as "meter software").
This document is not applicable to:
——testing equipment for electricity metering equipment;
——metering systems comprising multiple equipment physically separated from one another;
——portable electricity metering equipment.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 11457 and the following apply.
3.1
embedded software
software embedded in hardware devices and running in the form of microinstructions
3.2
user interface
interface medium for information transfer between an operator and a measuring instrument or its hardware/software components
Note: Examples include switches, keyboards, mice, display screens, monitors, printers, touch screens, and software windows on screens (including software generating the windows).

3.3
protective interface
software module preventing illegal influence on the software parts relevant to the legal metrology management and the control data flow
[Source: GB/T 42555-2023, 3.41]
3.4
software module
some relatively independent program units in the whole system, each of which completing and implementing a relatively independent software function
Note 1: Programs, subprograms, libraries, objects, etc., including data domains, have interrelated data areas.
Note 2: The control software of a measuring instrument includes one or more software modules.

3.5
software separation
separation of software in a measuring instrument, electronic device or component into software part relevant to legal metrology and software part not relevant to legal metrology
Note: They communicate with each other through software interfaces.
[Source: GB/T 42555-2023, 3.50, modified]
3.6
software identification
readable character string closely related to the software or software module of interest
Note 1: It is checked during the operation of the measuring instrument.
Note 2: Version number, checksum, etc. are examples of software identification.
[Source: GB/T 42555-2023, 3.46, modified]
3.7
message authentication code; MAC
data item derived from a message using the symmetric cryptographic technique, with a key as the parameter
Note 1: Any entity in possession of this key can use the message authentication code to check the integrity and originator of the message
Note 2: A MAC is sometimes also referred to as a cryptographic check value.
