In cases where two forms of cast iron share the same initial code letter, a lowercase letter can be appended to the uppercase letter to differentiate them. For further subdivisions within the same form of cast iron, the first uppercase letter of the Pinyin for the subdividing feature is used and added subsequently. Alloying element symbols are represented by international chemical element symbols, and mixed rare earth element symbols are represented by "R". The content and mechanical properties are represented by Arabic numerals.
