Contents 1 Introduction 1 2 Definition 1 3 Methods of manufacture 1 4 Surface characteristics 1 5 Classification and surface roughness parameters of the specimen 1 6 Evaluation of surface roughness 2 7 Structure size 3 8 Marking and packaging 4 Additional explanation: 5 Roughness comparison specimens Shot blasted and grit blasted surfaces 1 Introduction 1.1 This standard specifies the characteristics of roughness comparison specimens of shot blasted and grit blasted metal surfaces, which are used for comparison with the shot blasted and grit blasted surfaces, tactile and visual evaluation of the roughness of the shot blasted and grit blasted surfaces. It may serve as the reference basis for selection of the surface roughness value of the workpiece processed by shot blasted and grit blasted. 1.2 This standard makes references to the "shot blasted and grit blasted" part of ISO 2632/II-1985 Roughness comparison specimens - Part 2: Spark-eroded, shot-blasted and grit-blasted, and polished. 2 Definition The roughness comparison specimen of shot blasted and grit blasted surfaces (hereinafter referred to as "specimen") is a standard surface with the arithmetic mean deviation Ra of the known surface contour characterizing a specific metal material and the shot blasted and grit blasted methods. 3 Methods of manufacture The specimen shall be manufactured as follows: a. by electro-forming positive replicas of standard surfaces; b. by making the positive replicas in plastics or other materials of standard surfaces; c. by direct manufacturing the standard surface through shot blasted and grit blasted processing. 4 Surface characteristics 4.1 The specimen surface shall only exhibit the characteristics of metal material to be characterized and the surface roughness processed by shot blasted and grit blasted. 4.2 Non-directional texture features shall be on the specimen. 5 Classification and surface roughness parameters of the specimen The classification, surface roughness parameters and nominal values of the specimen (selected from the first series in GB 1031-83 Surface roughness parameters and their values) are detailed in Table 1. Table 1 Classification, surface roughness parameters and nominal values of the specimen Surface roughness parameter Ra Nominal value μm Classification of specimen Coverage rate Shot blasted Grit blasted Steel and iron Copper Aluminum, magnesium and zinc Steel and iron Copper Aluminum, magnesium and zinc 0.2 × × × - - - 98% 0.4 × × × - - - 0.8 * * * * * * 1.6 * * * * * * 3.2 * * * * * * 6.3 * * * * * * 12.5 * * * * * * 25 * * * * * * 50 * * * - - - 100 * * * - - - Note: “×” indicates the surface roughness realized by taking special measures; "*" indicates the surface roughness realized by general technological measures. 6 Evaluation of surface roughness 6.1 Evaluation method Measure 25 readings at the evenly distributed positions on the standard surface of the specimen to enable the mean value and standard deviation to be determined. The readings may be increased or decreased to meet the scatter degree. The instrument shall conform to the requirements of GB 6062-85 Stylus instruments for the measurement of surface roughness by the profile method - Profile recording instruments and profile meters by the system M. If the instrument used for an evaluation has a known or given error, this error shall be taken into consideration.
